ACC met today with labor organizations and the Molise Regional Council together with Stellantis at the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy
LIFE IN TERMOLI
- Automotive Cells Company and Stellantis took part today in a meeting organized by the Ministry of Industry and Made in Italy with labor unions and the Molise Regional Council to lay the groundwork for discussions on the employment aspects and competitiveness of the ACC Gigafactory.
- The success of ACC's Italian Gigafactory, in a European and global industry characterized by rapid technological development and fierce competition, lies above all in the competencies of the human resources that will be employed in the plant and their adequacy to manage the complex process of battery cell production used in the automotive industry.
- ACC's Gigafactory in Termoli represents an investment of more than 2 billion euros, at least 1,800 employees are expected in 2030, and production is scheduled to start in 2026.
Rome, 7th of Novembre 2023 – ACC, a company born from the initiative undertaken in 2020 by Stellantis and TotalEnergies (together with its sister company Saft), joined by Mercedes-Benz, and supported by France, Germany, Italy and the European Union, met today in a meeting organized by the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy with the trade unions, together with Stellantis and in the presence of the Molise Regional Council, to begin discussions on employment arrangements, contract profiles and the involvement of employees currently employed by Stellantis at its Termoli plant in the future ACC Gigafactory to be built in the area.
ACC's goal is to develop and manufacture cells and battery modules for electric vehicles with a focus on safety, performance and competitiveness, while ensuring the highest level of quality and lowest carbon footprint. The creation of this European battery champion will support Italy, France, Germany and thus Europe, in addressing the challenges of the energy transition in mobility while gaining sovereignty in the strategic battery sector. ACC's plan in Italy will mobilize an investment of more than 2 billion euros, which will be supported by grants and financed with equity and debt. The support of all stakeholders, particularly national and regional institutions, is essential to safeguard the future competitiveness of ACC's production facility in Termoli not only with respect to the availability of adequate subsidies but also, for instance, of sustainable and affordable electricity and of tools to support the training and reskilling of employees who will work at the plant.
"Automotive battery cell manufacturing is a process industry that combines chemical, electrochemical, and mechanical transformations and is extremely delicate, complex, and fully automated with the application of high environmental protection commitments and SEVESO's highest safety standards. Having the necessary skills to manage the production process and, at the same time, constantly improve is crucial to be able to make our Italian Gigafactory competitive in Europe and worldwide." said Benoit Torres, Vice President of ACC's Termoli Project.
"The protection of employment in Molise is certainly one of the positive aspects that this major industrial project can offer the territory. People currently employed in the Stellantis plant will certainly be given priority in joining ACC, taking into account the need to assess the acquisition of the skills necessary to be employed in a completely different production process, to be acquired through a prolonged and intensive reskilling process.” said Antonio Cuccuini, ACC's Director of Human Resources in Italy.
“For the success of this project, but also for the benefit of the industrial fabric of the local territory, it will also be necessary to attract new professional figures with high and specific profiles of competence and previous experience in the sector to be employed also in the research and development activities that will be carried out in our laboratories in Termoli." Cuccuini continued.
For ACC, the investment in Italy is not only essential to help protect the industrial and employment base of the Biferno Valley, but also has the ambition to affirm the country's role in the European battery industry.

About ACC
Born in 2020, we were built for the fast-paced, high-tech environment that is the modern energy industry. We are strong in the world of electric vehicle battery technology. We are the result of an initiative undertaken by Stellantis and TotalEnergies-along with its subsidiary Saft-joined by Mercedes-Benz, and strongly supported by France, Germany, Italy and the European Union.
Our new R&D center is already up and running in Bruges (Bordeaux), along with a state-of-the-art pilot plant in Nersac, France (Nouvelle Aquitaine). Our first Gigafactory was opened in Billy-Berclau Douvrin, Hauts-de-France. Then there is our new Applied Engineering Center and a second lithium-ion Gigafactory planned in Germany for 2025. Finally, there is a Gigafactory in Termoli, Italy, whose production will begin in 2026. This is a total investment of 7 billion euros, and it is just the beginning. We are putting down long-term roots around the world, securing a global network of R&D collaborators, industrial partners and suppliers.
