The power-plant of the future

Where the batteries of the future will be made. The Hauts de France have been dubbed “The Silicon Valley of Batteries” and our first Gigafactory – on Stellantis’ former Française de Mécanique site in Billy-Berclau - is a big part of it.
Here, we’ll produce lithium-ion battery cells and modules on a huge scale to power the next generation of electric vehicles. We aim to launch production in the second half of 2023, with a capacity of at least 13,4 GWh at first, ramping up to 40 GWh by the end of 2029, once the 3 production blocks are built. The site even has space to accommodate a 4th block if more space is needed.
Manufacturing at our gigafactory will be a blend of radical new processes and tried-and-tested materials – especially at our Bruges R&D Center and the Pilot Plant in Nersac. The production scale, however, will be larger than ever before.

A factory built to be easy on the planet
Built on an existing industrial site to safeguard green/agricultural space, the ACC Billy-Berclau Douvrin factory has been intensively impact-assesed for its effects on the environment:
- WILDLIFE:
Protected species located; avoidance and compensatory measures implemented
- WATER:
low consumption and no industrial water discharged outside the site.
- ENERGY:
ACC will make all efforts to reduce consumption; exploring self-generation of renewable energy.
- AIR QUALITY:Occasional, controlled emissions linked to the industrial solvents, below regulated levels in all cases.
- NOISE:
No noise pollution; noise from electrical station, substation, ancillary equipment and traffic) to remain below regulatory thresholds.
- WASTE:
"Classic" waste, liquid waste (with solvents) and solid waste (especially metals), for which treatment channels already exist. Target waste recycling rate - 90%.
End-of-life recycling of the batteries themselves is the responsibility of the car manufacturers. However, ACC is working to enable easier EV battery recycling in the future, using recyclable materials and green battery designs that are easy to dismantle and repair.
