CSR - How we made a difference in 2023
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is central to ACC’s activities, so we run workshops, events and challenges to help staff discover, understand and contribute to our own CSR success. It’s a great opportunity for people to collaborate across departments, and created a thriving ‘Sustainability in Motion’ community at ACC.
To round off European Sustainable Development Week, and with a touch of nostalgia, we took a look back at some of the CSR highlights of 2023.
Here are some of the things we did.
Cooperative, interactive and fun workshops
Every month, we organise ‘climate fresks’. These are 3-hour workshops where anyone who works at ACC can learn about the goals of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and the causes and consequences of climate change. The workshops are run by a team of nine highly trained, in-house moderators. This year, they added some more activities, including:
The Digital Collage
Members from our Simulation and Data departments took part in the first Digital Collage, exploring the environmental impact of digital technology. As technology plays a growing part of our lives it's vital that we’re aware of how our use of it impacts the environment, and what we can do to minimize our impact, individually and collectively.
Carbone 4 and ‘MyCO2 workshop’
We invited Carbone 4 to run their ‘MyCO2 workshop’. It was one of our most successful workshops, with over 10% of employees (100 people) taking part. It mixed humor and interactive learning to create an engaging, inspiring experience that helped people understand how their daily activities contribute to their carbon footprint - and the practical steps they could take to reduce it.
Inventing our low-carbon lives
We also ran a quiz that helped people examine their carbon footprints. This was followed by a workshop, hosted by François-Joseph Grimault. It looked at the carbon impact of various sectors such as agriculture, transport and textiles. After a presentation on each sector’s carbon impact, people were divided into teams and tasked with finding new ways the sectors could reduce their environmental impact.
The Ma Petite Planète challenge
The aim of this is to find little ways that can help all of us live greener lives and reduce our environmental impact. This year’s entries included eco-friendly home creations, zero-waste initiatives, and vegetarian team lunches. Our 2023 Grand Champion is Anne de C., and the wining team was ACC’02, led by Christina G.. Céline D. R. won the jury’s “Coup de Coeur” award.
There’s still more to come!
We’re not finished yet! Breast cancer awareness month, October Rose, is back at ACC, so look for ACC employees proudly showing off their pink ribbons and pink clothes on October 17th. Fundraising walks and runs are also planned.
And in Movember, our male colleagues will be growing hairy facial additions to raise funds to help fight male cancers and support men’s mental health. Stay tuned as we prepare some moustache-themed content and challenges !
